The Hot New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!

It's not a big surprise that a classic American design like the Adirondack Chair has made a huge come back in just the last two years. This fad is spreading since folks around the country are choosing to spend a great deal more of their free time relaxing in their thoughtfully created outside living space. I remember as a 6 year old, sinking completely back into one of these wonderful old chairs, with my feet dangling barely over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled apples from the trees and talked about the homemade apple pie topped with melting vanilla ice cream that we just knew grandma would have for us after we had supper. With a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was serene and warm. When Grandpa told stories it seemed like time flew by. It really is no big mystery why we love to relax and unwind outdoors, whether it's out on the patio, sitting on the front porch, on the deck, or in your garden area. What better way to do that than to sit back in a high backed, deep seated, comfy Adirondack and just leave your cares behind.

So where exactly did this little part of Americana come from? Well, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This furniture design was commonplace among the several mountain hide aways and resorts that were so prominent in those days. By the time the 40's came around the Adirondack style was just about everywhere. The furniture trend started to move south and was heading west fast. As the Adirondack design began to grow in popularity, and made its way around the country, influences regionally began showing up. The furniture design was given to a large variety of styles of outdoor furniture which include; gliders, benches, rocking chairs, porch swings, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece they called the "tete a tete" which literally translates; "head to head". This nostalgic design incorporates two chairs with a table between them and is constructed as one piece. What a perfect way to spend a warm Spring day with an old friend!

You'll be shocked and pleased to find a large selection of Adirondack furniture that's available now. Not only has the original style withstood the test of time, but the Adirondack trend has exploded with a pleasant supply of finishes, material, colors, and styles. Classic Adirondack style furniture is constructed from wood that is known to resist insects and corrosion including red or white cedar, cherry, cypress, or oak. The wood that is chosen will vary depending on the part of the country as do individual designs. A hot option in conventional Adirondack style is lawn furniture built out of polymer "lumber" that is made from plastic recycled packaging, old milk jugs, and such. Not only is this an environmentally responsible way to invest in furniture, but you will also have some advantages with durableness, longevity, easy care, and colors aren't going to eventually fade since the pigments are mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors to protect it.
