The most popular of these are nicotine gum and the patch.  These types of quit smoking products work by delivering nicotine to the systems of those who are trying to quit smoking.  By replacing the nicotine that someone would otherwise be receiving through cigarettes with nicotine from the gum or the patch, the individual is less likely to have severe cigarette cravings or nicotine withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting cold turkey.

You can also obtain quit smoking help from the American Cancer Society website.  They sponsor a variety of programs that supply people trying to quit smoking with smoking free videos and other support items that can make kicking the habit much easier. 

They can suggest the best quit smoking ways available, and they can provide research findings supporting or debunking certain quit smoking methods.  The American Cancer Society also offers helpful quit smoking tips to get you through the hardest periods of withdrawal.

No matter how you choose to quit smoking, the most important step is getting quit smoking help, whether it is from family members and friends of from quit smoking aids. 

Once you have the support structure in place and the desire to quit, it is just a matter of will power from there on out.  It is helpful to remind yourself how good you will feel once you have finally stopped smoking for good.  You might consider placing a picture of a set of smokers lungs next to a set of healthy lungs somewhere you can see it every day as a source of inspiration to help you quit.
